Don't get me wrong, I love 3D but the PSP2 looks like it's going to offer so much more beyond that, while the 3DS just kind of hopes that the glamor of 3D never gets old. Heres a hint: It will.
NGP don't have a UMD Driver soo, I can't stand consoles like this... you know I like to have game box, the card or CD witch software- I don't want to download it from WEB (for example), it will be a lot of problems to cracked games on this :/ May they have a new patent, a new driver??
However from all of this consoles I like my GBC
Ah a new propriety flash based Sony format, kind of looks like an SD Card with a different form factor. How much are they going to over price it this time ?
I detest companies using their own proprietry formats be it for storage, connectors and that type of thing as they are usually overpriced and exist for no other reason but to increase their profits be it through sales or evading licensing of other common formats.
About time we had some standards between all products.

The UMD drive would add extra manufacturing cost. I don't think Sony wants to spend any extra money on a legacy format. They even removed PS2 support from PS3s and that way way more popular than the PSP!
Downloaded games aren't necessarily less "secure" than games on physical media. Look at the Xbox 360 for example. Flashed drives are common but they'll only run discbased games. Except for JTAG and dev units there have been no way to pirate downloadable games. The Wii is another example, drivechips were around since launch but it wasn't until 2008 that people found ways to pirate virtual console and wiiware games.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
And yes that's a rhetorical question because it does.
I believe the 3DS will have an SD slot, so no need for a new 3DS gamecard format? Sure it has one for the simple reason of security by obscurity, people need to reverse engineer the card's format and specs before they can use it and that will take some time or a little depending on which genius is working on it.
Same reason holds for the PSP2 as well, but of course they really needed that upgrade to a flash based disk format. Because that has more advantages over the old umd system.
Reminds me of the little notch in the gameboy's cartridges. Must have been thinking ahead. (Though it seems strange that they removed the feature, since it easily disabled removing the cartridge while the system was on...)
Well those VCR sized consoles still use disc based format like DVD9 and BD. But that's not really an option for handhelds because they actually should minimize power usage so the disc based format is left out. Although I have no idea why Sony kept UMD for their psp, they probably had a brilliant idea which failed or something.
