Welcome to ‘The Almost heaven Crisis’ V1.37!

CONTROLS
WASD to move around
SPACEBAR to jump
LEFT MOUSE BUTTON to fire
RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON for menu
ESC to return to menu (Progress will be saved)

STORY
High up in the misty mountains, a group of survivors have set up camp. They are paranoid and think that all visitors will try and take them down. The have stockpiled weapons and have set up little towns, far away from normal civilisation.
HOWEVER! Recently, communications with the town down South have ceased. Something has happened down there. Will YOU go and investigate?

HOW TO PLAY
‘The Almost Heaven Crisis’ is an isometric survival game. The world plays on whether you take action or not. Day becomes night, blue skies turn to thunder and lightning. And ZOMBIES will take over the world unless you stand up and fight against them!
The other villagers aren’t useless- they will try their best, and those armed with guns will attempt to take down the zombies. However, the zombies are fast-moving and strong and with out your help it could be a lost cause. You must level up, stockpile weapons and food, and go out hunting for these flesh-munching maniacs! Beware- dead civilians will become zombies. FIRE IS THE ONLY CLEANSER!

FIRST TIME YOU PLAY
It can feel overwhelming to be dropped in the middle of the battlefield with out a clue about what to do. Fortunately, you have a map of the area. Use this to guide yourself around. Steer clear of the South, and try to stay near PCs and people, as buildings provide cover and cannon fodder. Find computers as soon as possible. You’ll find them in buildings. Stand in front of them and when the message appears, press RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON and you’ll access a buy / sell screen. You’ll first need a weapon. Go to the WEAPONS tab, choose one and click BUY. Then, go to the tab marked with glasses and buy some ammo for your gun. Once this is done, leave the terminal, then access your inventory (RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON) and equip the weapon. You can get more money and experience by killing zombies. Level up your stats in the inventory screen.

STRENGTH – Increases HP

AGILITY – Increases speed and accuracy

INTELLIGENCE – Increases accuracy

ALL INCREASE LEADERSHIP SKILL, Intelligence the most. So it’s kind of pointless at the moment since you don’t need leadership.

You can starve in this game! You can last 24 hours with out food. Eat food in the same way as you would equip a weapon. A day/night cycle is approximately 10 minutes in real time. Be sure to hide at night, as visibility becomes very shrouded and you don’t want to be caught in a pack of zombies.

PLEASE NOTE
This game is not entirely finished. Most of the elements are there but I want to still add to this game and over the following days you will find newer, better versions available which will iron out the bugs and will add new features. Expect to be able to have conversations with people. You’ll be able to use your intelligence to get people to follow you around. I’m hoping to add vehicles. You will be able to customise the face of your character, and HOPEFULLY you’ll even be able to play as a zombie!
This game has a lot of sandbox potential. Also expect to see sliders added so that you can increase the number of people and zombies in the game. I will also add an options screen so that you can lower the graphical quality of the game, as I understand it is quite CPU intensive at the moment.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Dual core processor, preferably Intel Core 2 Duo ot AMD Athlon X2 / Phenom
Graphics card capable of HWA

PLAYTESTING
Yes, this game will need a lot of playtesting. After I wake up tomorrow I will fix these problems;
* Some invisible boulders
*Rubbish character models
*Strange bug where you enter a snow desert
*Zombies not being anywhere (They are, but an in-game map will help you to find these blighters).

People and zombies outside your play area currently move about, in later versions I hope to simulate battles and get them to enter / leave the play area as they would in ‘real life’.

GAME ENGINE
This engine has a lot of potential. Blow a hole in a wall and it’ll remain that way. I hope to extend this destruction to other objects as well. Also expect to see dead bodies stay there (Until they turn into zombies, of course!).

FEEDBACK
What do you like? What don’t you like? What would make this game better? Please play this game a bit before telling me, as there is a lot to take in when you first start up this game, please spend some time getting used to it before you slate me for making a rubbish game.

This is a difficult game to get into, please put the time and effort in and once you're used to the way things work you might find it more enjoyable.

I am still adding to this game. Expect more versions soon.

Ok I'm sure I'm just being stupid so I wont rate yet.
1. Where are all the towns? I fianlly found one house with a computer when I nearly starved to death
2. At night you can't see ANYTHING, also I found no torch available for sale
3. How do you access the map????
4. Very confusing overall

Hi,

1) Well done for finding the computer, by the way. You'll find a town if you move to the East (So when you start, go South, then in the place with a lake, go East)

2) I'm not sure about this problem. You have a torch by default, just like in that picture you can see for this game. Are you sure you have your brightness on your monitor at the correct levels? Could it be something to do with the HWA this game uses?

3) The levels are linked together in the way it shows in the map.bmp file you'll find in the same folder as the game. I didn't want to include it in the game because it would be too easy to find your way around. Part of the fun is getting to know your surroundings, then by exploring... at night. And nearly dying. And getting attacked by zombies.

4) Okay, I'll add a map in-game if you want me to. I understand that this game's confusing the first time you play but I can't do much about that unless I dumb down the game and make it smaller, less sprawling and easier. This isn't a quick and easy arcade game, it's one that forces you to stock up on supplies, then to go out hunting for zombies to get money for more food.

Thank you for playing the game and for giving it a chance, I guess that this game just takes a while to get used to, much like Malayalam - Island of Mysteries does. And I'm patching this game up as quickly as I can!

EDIT: Did you click CONTINUE instead of new game? It destroys time and space if you do that before actually having a save. V1.23 is now out!

DON'T ADD A MAP!
It is confusing at first, yes. But when you get into it it really is fun to explore. That fun will be destroyed with a map if you ask me.
Perhaps add some tutorial stage which learns you the basics and about exploring!

how about a map but not one that shows where you are on it.. you know like a map, not a GPS system.

on top of that it could only show a location once you've already been there.

This is getting better and better with every build!!

Thanks Marko, I really appreciate that. V1.36 is out now and it adds a 3-slot save system, increases frame rates in towns and polishes the game a bit more.

EDIT: V1.37 now as well. Every time I release a new version, i'm sure that it fixes the final few bugs. But I keep discovering new ones in interesting places. Hopefully no more.

"That fun will be destroyed with a map if you ask me. "

See also: Super Metroid.

Cool you're comparing Morrowind to this but those graphics remind me more of Baldur's Gate for the PC.

Interesting. What about the gameplay? I'll probably be redoing the graphics soon for this game, I understand it's a bit messy and disjointed at the moment.

Don't give up on this 3kliksphilip, i think the premise and the basics already present in this game are bloody awesome!

I quite like where this is going. It's not great now, but the potential is spectacular. I'm liking the open world. Not enough klik games attempt something like this.

I agree with the above post!

Ok I got this game now. It really has potential but needs more of everything! Also make more foods that are very expensive so you have to buy them later and offc make sure you don't fill the stats in 5 minutes. Otherwise wonderful job! (I found out my monitor had been on 16-bit for a while and thus I couldn't see the flashlight :/ )

After I choose my stats when starting a new game, I see the game for a second and then it automatically says that "I Died"

Posted by Gokotti 29th October, 2009

I played this. First i just walked around and found a pistol. I wondered, "where are all the zombies"? Then one zombie came, and killed me in seconds...

I also found a bug, if you count it as one. At the beginning of the screen, game has no lag and goes well. After a while, all the objects might be stacked somewhere, and they eat your cpu power. You should check out if all the snow objects and stuff disappears...

Sumo, you need to extract the game before running it, as it creates important array objects in a folder and I don't know if it can make / access those if you're simply running the game from winrar.

Mikko, it could be the AI, the more people there are in an area, the slower it goes. I'll work on optimizing it in the next version

Thanks for downloading it

Posted by Sumo148 31st October, 2009

I did extract it

Do you have folders called Save1 Save2 Save3 and Arrays in the same directory as the exe file?

Great stuff, kind of jumpy but it's a great concept.

Posted by TreeHugger 5th November, 2009

I've got the same problem as Sumo. The folders are there and it's created the array files, but each time I play I just get about a second before the game ends?

Posted by 3kliksphilip 5th November, 2009

Did you alter the length of the day in the options?

Posted by TreeHugger 5th November, 2009

Tried altering the day length but whether the slider is full, empty or half way the result is the same.
Just tried looking at the health bar (in the 1 sec I get before game over) and it looks like I'm starting with 0 health? Did the same with quickly right-clicking to see the menu and that seems to show 0 health too

How many folders do you have? What are they called? Has it been extracted?

Posted by TreeHugger 5th November, 2009

Yep, it's been extracted.
I have four folders: Arrays, Save1, Save2 and Save3.
Within the Arrays folder there are 17 .txt files; Advanced, Character, People and 14 Stages.

Posted by 3kliksphilip 5th November, 2009

And where's the exe file located?

Posted by TreeHugger 5th November, 2009

There's the main Almost Heaven folder and inside is the exe and and the four folders

Posted by 3kliksphilip 5th November, 2009

I really don't know then, I've never had that problem and if it's able to save the files then it should be able to load them.

Posted by TreeHugger 5th November, 2009

Oh well, shame really as the game looks pretty good.
I'll just wait until you release the next version and try again then
