(I hope no one would mind this being a XNA game and not a MMF game. This is supposed to be an indie game community right?)
Mod Society (still a working title) is a 2D Platforming Shooter similar to Contra and Gunstar Heroes with a huge focus on gun customisation.
The demo features only a single level that will repeat for infinite times. You will be able to collect 5 guns & 47 mods (18 unique mods).
See the gameplay video here:
Gun Customisation
Every Gun comes with 5 slots – 2 base mods slots & 3 custom mods slots.
Base mods cannot be changed and is stuck with the weapon you’re equipping. The weapon “machine gun” as shown in the image has no base mods.
Custom mods, on the other hand, are fully customisable. Equipping a fire I mod on one of the slots will imbrue it with fire damage. Try different combination for different results.
So how do you get Guns/Mods? Completing any stages will earn you 2 random Guns/Mods. This can be done even if you complete the same stage. The loot earned will always be unique.
(for more information, read the readme file coupled with the game).
The graphics are really nice and polished. I think the "base" and "mod" text are hardly readable at all though. And I got a bit confused when my mouse pointer was out side the screen when I was in fullscreen.
Seriously, this is one of the most entertaining indies I've played. Really.
First off, the engine and modding abilities are what really make this game so darn fun. It's just so satisfying to get new mods every level, most of which are very useful.
I love the graphics style. It's polished, it's bright, it's contrasted, and it's fun.
The sounds and music fit very well.
Overall, this is one of the most fun indies in development. Faved!
I love the weapon system (and the movement is really smooth too). I know balancing probably hasn't been done yet but I was disappointed at how useless the bazooka was and in general how much better the pistol was than anything else.
Hey dustin gunn, someone commented that the bazooka is overpowered from an earlier build so i make it less powerful but i guess i overdo it . Yeh ill make the pistol less powerful too. Thanks.
Hey WereWoof, you got me all fired up dood! Kept me motivated.
Thanks again for the comments. Ive changed the installer for the game as some people are not able to run the installer. The game is slightly larger as a result. The weapons are also a bit more balanced.
The mods are still really unbalanced though, and that ill fix in the near future. Two of my own favourite combis are as follows:
Flamethrower + Acceleration + Stun = Boost your flamethrower range and with its high rate of fire, the enemies are hardly able to get near you.
Any Gun + Boomerang + Meat Splitter = Meat splitter allows you to shoot through enemies. Coupled with boomerang, an enemy will likely get hit twice with one shot.
Just some suggestions .
Del Duio : I love customisation too, especially that of FFT.
really quite fun actually. I would love to see this as an actual XBLA and with a few minor adjustments it's very possible. Very addictive. The text when hitting enemies is a bit hard to read, but otherwise, awesome job.
My final overkill equipment:
Machinegun + explosion III + fire III + thunder III
...You could run the level straight through without stopping at any point with that stuff ...At that point I decided, I had played enough of that one level. I'm looking forward the full version. Definitely gona buy it if it's 5-10$ as you thought!
I got to level 11 ^^ (just to see that there was no further mods)
And i found a bug. The Bazooka with Boomerang III makes the bullet stand still in air, its quite fun actually
New favorite mod set:
Pistol + Boomerang III + Meat Splitter III + Large Bullets III = killing the yellow monsters in two hits with supreme damage
Hehe i was not expecting to have anyone reach level 11... the maximum is supposed to be level 9. Glad you guys enjoyed it! If the boomerang thing is fun i don't think i wanna fix it haha. Makes discovering it fun!
