Well this is my Latest Platformer since Tops the pig 3 which was released in 2003. But believe it or not this game was in the making way further back than that! This is the Sequel to my first ever game, can you guess it's name? I made Buzz 1 back in 2001 and quickly started on a sequel, it had countless restarts and 4 years later here it is!

Harking back to the days of the Mascot platformer, here is Buzz the squirrel 2!

Buzz must travel through around 22 levels of tricky platformer action to reach the space base where his fellow villagers are being held by his arch enemy Zak the squirrel! Zak has got into the nasty habit of testing on animals and has created dangerous minions all out to Stop Buzz by fair means or foul, preferably foul.

The gameplay is similar to the Mario bros and you'll probably guess that quite quickly, Buzz can squash enemies, run (ctrl), throw (ctrl when next to a box) and do lots of other platformy goodness, but don't run too fast as there are a lot of hidden bonus items around including coins, yellow coins are worth 1, blue are worth 30 and red coins are worthless (Except for a bit of fun if you want to track them all down)

The game will save on each completed level and at the end of the game. Upon completion a level select and mini game will become available.

This game was a chance for me to push The games factory to breaking point. Well I didn't really succeed. Apart from having the limit of 260 objects in some levels The games factory didn't hinder the game in any way. Well the levels aren't exactly super sized but they're sizeable enough to not be able to rush through in seconds.

Note* there are no sfx due to my PC crashing when sounds play on TGF and MMF games, I hope this does not make the game any less enjoyable. There IS music however, lots of Mod Music.

I Hope you enjoy.

Bug fix! (thanks to Bogo47 for telling me)
Finishing level 4-4 now goes to 5-1 not 4-2.

Looks interesting.

I may review it later, just because I liek DC points.

Uhh, well it's a nice game, and It has awsome music, but It's just too much like the Mario games for me. It's just kinda another platformer. I think some people will really like it, it's just not for me. Hmm, what program did you use for that music anyway?

Posted by David Newton (DavidN) 20th December, 2005

This is a decent platformer - I think that four levels per world is a little excessive, but it still deserves a thumb up.

Posted by AndyUK 20th December, 2005

I didn't make the music. Thanks for you comments people.
I didn't come across the flying bug, goodness knows why that happens.

Posted by MikeP 20th December, 2005

Nice game, as for the crashing you have with sounds, what Windows do you have, and do you have the most recent sound drivers? You probably already tried that, but if not i would.

Posted by AndyUK 20th December, 2005

XP home edition.

It looks good, haven't tried it yet though and I won't have time the coming days...

Try disabling DirectSound, I had the same problem before and it worked. However, not having DirectSound might screw up other games. (Mario Forever, Jonny RPG are two I recall having problems with)

Posted by AndyUK 21st December, 2005

on tgf? is that possible?

Posted by DaVince 21st December, 2005

Nah, MMF only, I think. TGF doesn't use DirectSound at all, if I remember correctly.

Posted by Noyb 21st December, 2005

That's the same place it happened to me, Phizzy.

Posted by AndyUK 21st December, 2005

Ive never had that problem so i can't really fix it... any suggestions?

Posted by AndyUK 21st December, 2005

Thank you for the thumbs up! nice to see people like it!
I will try to fix the bugs, if i ever some across that floating in mid air one...

Posted by AndyUK 21st December, 2005

Fixed.

It was simply that i only had one of those breakable boxes in the frame and need at least 1 for the events to work properly.
breaking it would cause the jumping events to mess up.
it'll work now

anyhoo, this is SOOO much better that Buzz the Squirrel 1. In the sense that this one doesn't suck.

Posted by AndyUK 22nd December, 2005

No Bibinson, Buzz 1 does not suck.

But i'll agree that this is vastly better.

Posted by Airflow 22nd December, 2005

Bibi didnīt say that the first did suck. Bibi might have been refering to High Way crossing Frog.

Posted by Bibin 23rd December, 2005

"But i'll agree that this is vastly better. "

alright, i did exaggerate. But Buzz 1, in comparison, is not fun. i'll avoid saying "suck" now.

Posted by AndyUK 23rd December, 2005

Fine, anyone having more problems? Trouble beating the final boss?
trouble getting there?

bugs?

Posted by Bibin 24th December, 2005

nope, none other than already reported! g-job.

Posted by axel 25th December, 2005

Nah, I won't review it. But overall it was pretty decent. It was nothing special actually. Just another platformer. Nothing was missing, but at the same time it didn't have anything more than most other platformers. A bit like a mario game... Ok, a lot like a mario game. The music was pretty annoying at some places, but not bad. Graphics were well drawn, but could have been better with more animations and shading. The game was what you could expect from an average platformer. Nothing more, nothing less.

Peece.

Collecting items (coins, lives, etc.) while holding a box is a little flaky. Otherwise, the engine seems solid.

Posted by AndyUK 26th December, 2005

yeah, thats down to the way ive made it. before you could collect coins and things whilst they were hidden behind boxes.
so i put in a line where buzz can't collect things if they are overlapping a box (however it works even when he is carrying it)

Posted by AndyUK 26th December, 2005

Oh! Thanks for the review Nastyman. Don't quite understand it to be honest but 9\10 tells me you must like it!

Posted by DaVince 27th December, 2005

The download is broken now, as are the screenshots?...

Posted by AndyUK 27th December, 2005

Ectoprods is down for now,

try the other link if it doesn't work.

Posted by MIG2 28th December, 2005

Neither the first link works nor the second

Posted by AndyUK 29th December, 2005

Right click and save as?

or maybe the 4.5mb hourly limit was passed.

Posted by AndyUK 31st December, 2005

alright! the link should work again now.

ugh..gets kinda boring after a wile..

Posted by Justin 1st January, 2006

You should make a Tops and Buzz game where you can switch between them and they can each do different moves.

Posted by AndyUK 1st January, 2006

Sorry you feel that way Brandon.

I'm done with platformers for now Justin but i have thought about that before. Buzz and Tops would look weird together unless i redraw one or both of the sprites.

" ugh..gets kinda boring after a wile.."

and then i played mario's haunted night

Posted by 1 2nd January, 2006

i played the first level of this game and ran into 4 enemies through the whole run across.

Posted by AndyUK 2nd January, 2006

your point?

Posted by Bogo47 3rd January, 2006

I got through the 4th lake level and it warped me back to the 2nd lake level. I assume that's not supposed to happen.

Anyways, this is a good game. Would be a very good game if it only had some sound effects.

Posted by AndyUK 4th January, 2006

No it's not. Thank you for informing me of that one. That is a pretty major error.
I can't believe it's been this long and noone else has told me about it.

Posted by AndyUK 4th January, 2006

So i'm guessing noone has finished the game yet? Because it was impossible!!
Unless that problem arose during one of the later fixes.

Posted by Cazra 4th January, 2006

I can't get past the large gap in level 3 just after the two bomb blocks.

Posted by AndyUK 5th January, 2006

take a running jump, it's easy.

Posted by AndyUK 7th January, 2006

Would people like to fill me in on the reasons for the thumbs down?

Posted by AndyUK 8th January, 2006

Thank you Phizzy. Review maybe?

Posted by Mike Haggar 18th January, 2006

If anyone wants a cliche opening line of jargon for their review I've come up with one: "Buzz The Squirrel looks like the love child of a drunken Mario and a dazed Sonic but don't be fooled this game doesn't play much like either! (okay the former kinda) But anyway, cool game, it does have a mascot game type feel. Cool level design, honestly without that this game would've been kinda dull because, not to criticize, but this has all been done to death before. I also enjoyed the way Buzz gives the thumbs up to the UK flag at the end of the stage. Quite smashing indeed Buzz.

Posted by AndyUK 22nd January, 2006

Well It seemed like a nice idea to let people know the game was made by a Brit. He isn't actually doing it to be patriotic.
Also there were going to be a lot more than just the union flag, there would have been a choice on the menu screen.

Also some magazine want this on their coverdisk! i'm waiting for an email about it!

Posted by arpgme 1st July, 2006

I keep geting stuck on the secound level. But I guess the game is good besides that.

Posted by The Chris Street 18th January, 2007

How the frick do you beat the final boss exactly? I can jump on him up to four times, and then this homing ball appears when he leaves the screen. Thing is, the ball never seems to go away, and eventually a second ball appears = instant death.

Posted by AndyUK 15th April, 2007

that isn't supposed to happen, It's probably because noone else got that far.
Ive lost the source now so i can't really fix it i'm afraid.

Posted by The Chris Street 14th July, 2007

Poo!

Well, nows your chance to make up for it with Buzz 3 - and in MMF2 as well, you could really have a chance to shine with your forever improving skills

Good, solid platformer, which is something I just can't seem to get enough of. I think it gets boring after a little while, and I agree with the first poster in that 4 levels per world is a little excessive. But overall a good game.
