A short 5 level platform game created as a kind of example for my own Console wars competition. It's made for the 8-bit Console and abides by the limitations to a certain extent. However it's a friendly competition that really has no planning or structure, just ideas so far. It really relies on user participation.

Thanks go to Davince and Nastyman for providing some of the music.

You can pick up objects (down) and throw them at enemies (ctrl/fire2) and on the fifth level you can shoot (ctrl/fire2)

Here is a link to the forum topic for anyone that cares to find out more about the competition.

Bug fix for version 1.1
.Fixed level 4 making it much easier to get past
.The final score is actually visible at the end of level 5

Is he supposed to be able to walk backwards when I hold both left and right key? I had no luck at picking anything up (the barrels?) Stood next to them and tried down and ctrl, stood on top of them and tried it, no luck, he just ducked.

Also found the music had a nice melody, but got repeatative after the first two minutes.

Oh right, I had to pick up some other thing... what is it? It wasnt made very obvious considering the barrels were the only items I noticed that moved around when I walked into them. And when he finally threw something his arm is now constantly raised in the air?

Forgot to rate, I really liked the graphics done in old style on purpose. It was a little smooth to be running on an older system though.

Oops i wrote the controls wrong, Pick up objects by just pressing down.
I thought i had fixed the holding animation bug. I guess not, lol.

I agree with what you say about the music, i'm still a newb at tracking so my songs are really short. Although Davince and Nastyman made one or two for me.

and that first object is supposed to be a paint pot...

That's a great one! It's really hard, but I'll beat it, no matter how many tries I need. Continues would have been nice though.

Nice game. There are a few bugs or things here and there that could have been improved though...

- The barrel near the exit of level 1 acts odd. Push it to the right and it won't fall off the ledge... I do understand if this is intended behaviour, but instead it moves back to the left and then the platform above it.
- Could have added sound effects using Sfxr or something. It's so quiet...
- The music doesn't loop properly, but this is probably a problem with MMF, not the game.
- Title screen is kind of bad, just like you told me... I think black as the bg might have worked better.
- No game over theme playing during game over, but there's a kwik death file in the music folder...
- EDIT: he drops through floors that have other non-passable platforms above them.

The low-res graphics were great and authentic and the level design was good overall. I'm keeping this one.

Also, awesome music lolol

The Kwik death music is a misleading name. It's not supposed to be used for a Game over.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

It's a red block. Not too uncommon an item for old games.

Red block? It's a Brick!

Easily the best game on TDC, good entry for the competition.

I might enter now...

I played through to the 3rd level, died and on the first level I was holding the gold plant pot.

It's rather smart this. Got a real classic feel to it. And that 3rd level was brilliant! Had a strong Turrican vibe to it.

The game itself is decent, but feels a lil' unpolished.

The graphics are amazing though.

Yeah it's not polished at all. I guess i get too eager to release my games and don't playtest enough. Thats why Ive just updated to version 1.1 to fix some stupid bugs i should have spotted earlier.
