What is Emerald Challenge?
Emerald Challenge is a Sonic fan-game based 'boss' where you play as Sonic and must destroy Chaos in a manner that is rather unique.

In the challenge, you must hit all the emeralds to 'expose' the Master Emerald, then hit the Master Emerald to deal damage to Chaos and continue to the next phase. Phases obviously continue to get more difficult.

In addition to this, you must beat the boss on limited rings, and pass through all 5 stages on a single life.

Features:
Parallax Scrolling (Given)
Custom 360 Engine (Given)
Fully Functional 360 Rings
Smooth 60fps v-sync game-play.
Windowed or Fullscreen choice.
HD Ogg Background Music.
Multiple Special Effects
5 increasingly harder phases to complete.
Highly challenging, while still simple.
Finish Timer to compare times.

Readme File explains known glitches, more in-depth detail on how to beat the boss, and hints on beating him easier/quicker.

Ill download after uni, I remember the demo of this?

"Fully Functional 360 Rings" hehehehehe

I love Sonic, he's my ultimate fav - even before mario. Guess on that basis i'll just HAVE to give this one a go

By 360 rings I basically meant that they they bounced around 'correctly', not based off of the simple "add to gravity so that they appear to bounce'. They react to the environment and when they spill out, they spill based on how many you have.

Who the heck would honestly care about that? O_o

Posted by Tim 31st October, 2006

Oh right, I thought you meant that the rings simply rotated through 360 degrees..

Posted by Silveraura 31st October, 2006

@SkyDragon: Unless the rings spill correctly, no Sonic fan-game will ever truly feel anywhere near the original. I'm not saying this will play anything like the original, but the rings sure do help some.

This is very fun!

Yeah, I liked it, nicely made

Posted by AndyUK 31st October, 2006

i agree, well made.

i didn't find it much fun though.
Do those stands the emeralds are on really need to get in your way?

Posted by Silveraura 31st October, 2006

If I ever return to make a patch or something, I'll check into making the emerald stands so you can walk through them.

It might really change the playability of the boss though, so I may or may not keep them, based on if I like the changes.

"i didn't find it much fun though."
So faithful to the originals then?

Posted by Silveraura 1st November, 2006

I suppose this is what I get when I make a boss that is to difficult for anyone here at TDC to beat, so they don't like it.

sorry but i didnt find this game very enjoyable, it was annoying and not much point to it

It's pretty good for what it does, nice paralax and yes the rings do act very much like the original.

It's all presented very nicely and at least it isnt a default movement.

Thumbs Up for the effort.

It was fun to play, though it did get boring after a while. Still, thumbs up.

Brandon worked hard on this game, I think it's a shame people clearly put this down for really picky reasons, or no reasons what so ever.

I would.

The two major bugs pointed out in the readme (oddly subtracting one ring when you get hit and rings falling off the level) work together to make the game harder than it should be. Made it to phase 4 after a couple of tries.

As long as you never carry more then 1 ring, the missing ring bug never shows up. Rings falling out isn't really anything new to Sonic, considering that they purposely made it happen in the official games, to avoid you from getting the same ring over and over again.

Phizzy, I never mentioned anything about the voting system. I was quite clearly talking about the comments.

"So faithful to the originals then?"

No because I enjoyed them. Maybe as a kid i simply enjoyed the fact they were mostly quick and easy?

Posted by Silveraura 5th November, 2006

For people such as myself, I figured they might enjoy a nice challenge.

Sorry, but I hated this game. It wasn't fun at all for me, and I used to love Sonic.

Posted by Silveraura 6th December, 2006

Wouldn't have hurt to place down why it wasn't fun, of course. You haven't submitted anything, and use Freewebs as a webhost, so I couldn't really expect much more I guess. Sorry.
